He had a dream
When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:"Free at last! free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Dr Deb Serani (psychologist) says
http://drdeborahserani.blogspot.com/2005/09/blogging-seen-as-good-therapy.html

The Internet for years has been cutting into the circulation bases and advertising revenue of daily newspapers. The dailies have been generally slow to adapt as Web sites offered the timeliest possible news, blogs, and compelling online presentations that featured lots of links to outside and related resources.
One less positive development when it comes to online news and journalism has been the ever-more-fuzzy distinction between blogs--with their lack of fact checking, their flame-oriented reader comments, and other shortcomings--and the journalistic work that drives daily newspapers. Particularly for twenty-somethings and those even younger, I wonder whether they can recognize the difference between blogs and the more traditional forms of reporting and journalism in newspapers.
But recent events should make that distinction more clear and raise the level of accountability among bloggers. A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at the Los Angeles Times was
using pseudonyms to post comments on his and other blogs, including comments that deal with his column and other issues involving the newspaper.
The reporter was suspended by the Times, his column and blog were axed, and he'll be reassigned upon his return. In an
explanation to readers, the Times said, "...employing pseudonyms constitutes deception and violates a central tenet of The Times' ethics guidelines: Staff members must not misrepresent themselves and must not conceal their affiliation with The Times. This rule applies equally to the newspaper and the Web world."
The widespread adoption of blogging makes it extremely difficult for an organization like this to apply commonsense rules that respect the integrity of its traditional products and readers and require its employees to apply similar ethics online. The Times has succeeded in doing both. It's allowing high-profile writers to blog while also holding them accountable. That's a noteworthy step forward for blogging, and for newspapers as they try to balance online and offline businesses.

Labour Day, a tribute to those leaders who fought for worker's right and were labelled as communist and persecuted, by this logic Jesus was communist

Labor day celebrations in Russia15:10 2004-04-30May 1 is Labor Day in Russia. Labor Day emerged as a public holiday in the Soviet era. It retained its status even after the collapse of the communist regime, but lost much of its ideological meaning, of course. In the Soviet era, Labor Day celebrations traditionally began with parades, with the nation's most important one held in Moscow's Red Square. Those parades were not as politically charged as ones staged November 7, the holiday commemorating the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Along with Soviet flags, placards with patriotic slogans, and portraits of Communist leaders, Labor Day marchers also carried flowers, balloons, and other spring-minded stuff. The festivities also involved picnics in parks and forests and firework displays. In the early 1990s, the Communist Opposition used Labor Day to protest against the new democratic government's political course. In the mid-'90s, however, the holiday came to be associated with trade unions' struggle for the rights of workers. The blue banners of trade unionists then edged out the Communists' red flags. Overtime, the general public has lost interest in May 1 rallies and parades. Many now retreat to their dachas instead, to spend the day gardening. As for political parties, they use the occasion to promote their agendas. This time around, not only activists of the Communist Party are expected to take to the streets, but also ones representing the Rodina bloc and other leftist movements that have built their platforms on social justice rhetoric. The pro-Kremlin centrist United Russia party, now holding a majority of seats in parliament, may take part as well, in order to demonstrate its care about the man-on-the-street. And the right-wingers will most probably stage rock gigs in support of democracy and civil liberties. It is highly unlikely that the Russian tradition of Labor Day rallying will become a thing of the past any time soon. With this in mind, the State Duma, or parliament's lower house, has decided to amend the controversial bill banning rallies outside government buildings and embassies. The passage of that bill in its first reading in early April sparked public outrage and was strongly criticized by Vladimir Putin. The President pointed out to Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov that the new piece of legislation infringed on civil liberties and must be revised. Gryzlov, who leads the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, accepted Putin's criticism. He acknowledged that the ban on rallying outside government buildings was indeed "illegitimate," as "where else can they [rallies] be held to show to the government that not everyone shares its opinion." ©

History
In Europe, the labour movement began during the industrial revolution, when agricultural jobs declined and employment moved to more industrial areas. The idea met with great resistance. In the 18th century and early 19th century, groups such as the Tolpuddle Martyrs of Tolpuddle, Dorset were punished and deported for forming unions, which was against the laws of the time.
Throughout the world, action by the labour movement has led to reforms and workers' rights, such as the 2-day weekend, minimum wage, paid holidays, and the achievement of the eight-hour day for many workers. There have been many important labour activists in modern history who have caused changes that were revolutionary at the time and are now regarded as basic. For example, Mary Harris Jones, better known as Mother Jones, was central in the campaign to end child labour in the United States during the early 20th century. An active and free labour movement is considered by many to be an important element in maintaining democracy and for economic development.
A popular bumper sticker in the United States in the 1990s was, "The labor movement; the folks that brought you the weekend."
[edit]

Development of labour movements within nation states
Historically labour markets have often been constrained by national borders that have restricted movement of workers. Labour laws are also primarily determined by individual nations or states within those nations. While there has been some efforts to adopt a set of international labour standards throughout the International Labour Organization (ILO), international sanctions for failing to meet such standards are very limited. In many countries labour movements have developed independently and reflect those national boundaries. The Australian labour movement is an example of a labour movement that has grown and existed in a particular national context.
[edit]

Development of an international labour movement
With ever increasing levels of international trade and rising influence of multinational corporations, there has been debate and action within the labour movement broadly to attempt international co-operation. This has led to renewed efforts to organise and collectively bargain internationally. A number of international union organisations have been established in an attempt to facilitate international collective bargaining, to share information and resources and to advance the interests of workers generally.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

-Teddy Roosevelt, 1907

my country right or wrong

Let's build a hypothesis instead: that India is ruled by a despotic regime.
Suppose it has ignored -- and by ignoring, aggravated -- the suffering of millions of miserably poor Indians, many of whom go to sleep hungry and sick every single night. It has stoked hatreds among Indians, hatreds that have led to regular massacres all over the country. Too often, state machinery has participated in these great crimes. It has paid no attention to the need to punish the perpetrators of such massacres. Too often, it has rewarded them with power and protection, status and wealth. It has snuffed out any public faith in the rule of law -- not just by perverting the courts and police, but by installing criminals as the makers and keepers of the law. And, in this thought experiment, the greatest criminal of all heads the regime.
Remember: just a hypothesis.

But now, still in this hypothesis, how must a patriotic Indian react? Does she defend this ghastly junta to the world, because after all and always, it's 'my country, right or wrong'? Does he take up arms to fight its wars, to defend it to the death against foreign aggression, because of his love for India? (Does this love mean you must die for criminals?)

Then what do we say about those who might plot against the obscenity that blights their land, as Stauffenberg did, who fight to free India of it? Are they patriots? If so, what if they welcomed a force from abroad that toppled this hypothetical regime, as many Iraqis did? Are they still patriots?

In his superb history of the Second World War, John Keegan writes that Stauffenberg recognised the mortal danger of defeat into which the Führer had led the fatherland and anticipated the disgrace and punishment that the iniquity of Nazism would bring to his countrymen in its wake. Stauffenberg's motives, in short, were patriotic.

Churchill called Hitler a patriot. Keegan calls Stauffenberg a patriot. You can make your own call. But think of this: If Stauffenberg had succeeded that July day, he would have saved Germany from the ruin Hitler left in 1945. From the crumbling wasteland of 'my country, right or wrong'.
That's why he was a German patriot. That's why he died.

it is cheaper to manufacture in India

Why are the jobs coming to India? This is one question dogging everyone from politicians, businessmen, students, scientist and IT professionals to the common man on the street.

A fall out of Globalization, outsourcing is being discussed around the world from a renewed perspective, sometimes with pleasure and at other times with fury, depending upon which side of outsourcing the person is.

Today it has turned into a major political issue. Outsourcing that has been prevalent for a long time now has never been at the center of a storm of these dimensions. At the time when jobs were shifting south from the USA to Mexico dust had blown but perhaps it was just a warning of the coming storm that has engulfed American life affecting far off places like India and attracting the attention of the world.

So why is this such a hot topic? The phenomenon seems to have been triggered off by the emergence of the Indian economy on the global scene and its ability to attract jobs. Coupled with this is the downturn in the US economy and loss of jobs in that country. Even though these are two different things that happened simultaneously, they sadly managed to be mixed up. People are groping to understand the phenomenon and are still in the process of disentangling themselves from the wave of confusion that exists.

The answer is simple. It is cheaper to manufacture products in india in the unorganized sector.

1. No labour unions. Hence the worker works on 12 hour shifts for a wage of Rs 3,000/- (60 dollars) per month

2. No requirement for annual increments (not mandatory)

3. No compensation to injured workers on work related acccidents

4. No hassles of getting Pollution Control Board approvals for polluting industries

Alarmed by the loss of jobs to India and China
the US raised the Human Rights bogey

the americans started picketing the retail stores for buying cheap from india

WAL Mart and others insisted that the suppliers be SA 8000 certified

SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. No child labour2. No forced labour3. Health and safety at the workplace 4. Freedom of association and right to collective bargaining5. No discrimination on race, creed, caste and sex6. Disciplinary practices7. Working Hours8. Remuneration 9. Management Systems

In the process manufacturers in India kicked off the child labourers who now starve along with their families, and applied for SA 8000 certification

the other requirements cud be easily fixed

with excerpts from http://www.mapsofindia.com/outsourcing-to-india/jobs-outsourcing.html

PS: The organized sector in India too felt the heat and were forced to lay off their workers by VRS schemes and outsource fron the unorganized sector (SSI)

you may save a life if u read this

Please spare a few moments to ready out this

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
My friend sent this to me and encouraged me to post it and spread the word, I agreed. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously. Please read: During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the afternoon.

Ingrid's husband called later saying that his wife had been taken to the hospital and passed away. She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ.

Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some stroke victims don't die, they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within three hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke . . . totally. He said the trick was having a stroke recognized, diagnosed and then getting the patient medically cared for within three hours, which is tough.

doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

Ask the individual to SMILE.
Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. . . .. It is sunny out today)

*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this:
Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue .
if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke . If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher."

RECOGNIZING A STROKE: Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps. Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to ten people, you can bet at least one life will be saved.

"The deeds you do today may be the only sermon some people will hear today."

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. Suddenly the sky clouded, and in a booming voice the Lord said,"Because you have tried to be faithful to me, I will grant you one wish".

The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over anytime I want."
The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormity of the undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it will take! It will nearly exhaust all the natural resources. It is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me".

The man thought about it for a long time.
Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand my girl. How she feels inside, what she's thinking when she's silent? Why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how to make her truly happy".

The Lord replied, "You want four lanes or six on that bridge?"

what made the Pharisees and the elders in the Sanhedrin so angry with Jesus

The Pharisees had probably started with good intentions and were sincere in their endeavor to please God, at least in the beginning. They were so zealous for God that they wanted to protect his laws. What they decided to do is build a wall around the law, the 613 commandments. This wall consisted of 100 to 1,500 additional man made laws added to the former commandments. Their logic was like this, by putting a fence, a protective barrier around the Holy Law one would first have to break this law before they would break God's law and become guilty and be punished.

The problem was that as time went on the Jewish people become more familiar with and obedient to the fence laws of the Pharisee’s than to God's law. After all there was so much more to study before one could break through and become actually guilty from God.

In the New Testament period Jesus' whole ministry was a contention with the Pharisees traditions. They wanted him to validate and approve what they called the tradition of the elders (the fathers) Mk.7:1-9 Matt.15:1-4.

Contention grew between Jesus and the religious leaders as they wanted his approval of their traditions to be considered equal with Scripture.

Jesus was clear he was not going to approve of their man made traditions saying,” you lay aside the commandment of God and hold higher the tradition of men.”

The Pharisees with their laws set up a barrier between God and man making the commandments of God to no effect. Because they stopped people from seeing the word of God and they were not convicted of their sin.

It is for this reason Jesus rebukes them saying “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered.”

And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to assail Him vehemently, and to cross-examine Him about many things, lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, that they might accuse Him.” (Luke 11:52-54)

The Pharisees knew much (but not all) and they did not care to tell the regular people who were not in their religious club. Jesus comes along and explains the things of God to the common people and the Pharisees see that they are losing control.

They were to feed the people the word and instead they hid it from them. Jesus went even further and gave the disciples the understanding of the parable, the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven (Mt.13:11)

When we come to the New Testament Jesus defines what true law keeping is in his sermon on the mount. The sermon on the mount in Matthew chapter 5 was not meant to be the “golden rule” for Christian ethics for today. Yet many think we need to obey this sermon for salvation when it was actually a rebuttal against Pharisaic Judaism and the true intention of the law as given to Moses.Mt. 15:1-3:“

Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” Mark 7:2-5 adds, “ Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.

For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.

5Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?” They put their traditions above the commandments of Moses thereby nullifying them.

According to the Pharisee's principles, some of their laws involved heavier guilt than sins against the revealed Law of Moses. The tradition of the elders said he who rejects hand washing is like a murderer their judgment will be poverty. (Mk.7:1)

Their Judaism had the tradition with decrees, intended to separate the Jew from all contact with Gentiles who were considered unclean. Any contact with a heathen, even the touch of his cloths, would mean defilement, so coming from the market the orthodox Jew would have to immerse in water. Earthen vessels that had contracted impurity were to be broken; those of wood, horn, glass, or brass immersed; while, if vessels were brought of Gentiles, they were to be immersed, put into boiling water, purged with fire, or at least polished. They washed their hands (rubbing them) vigorously”-that is, not merely dipping the finger or hands in water as a sign of ablution, but rubbing the hands together as a ball or fist, the usual manner is water poured over them.

So the phrase comes to mean “diligently, carefully, sedulously.” The were to pay the utmost attention to washing and do it carefully and according to rule.

Jesus always brought their traditions to the ultimate authority the word of God, He quotes Isa.29:13 in Mk.7:6: “These people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me and in vain they worship me teaching as doctrine the commandments of men.” By adding traditions alongside the word they watered down the truth. Their traditions became more important than what God said through Moses. The Pharisees were meticulous in keeping the law of God especially around other people.

Jesus used them as an example of righteousness.Matt. 5:20: “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” How can we have a greater righteousness than those who were so zealous in keeping the law?

The righteousness Jesus is speaking of is from the inside, a heart change. Something the Pharisees lacked since It can only be apprehended by faith.Faith is superior than all the law keeping. This does not mean we dispense with the commands but scripture says they are established by faith. True faith will produce the works that are required but it must come from inside not just the outside.Matt. 23:25:

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.” They looked right from the outside on everyone else but Jesus knew what was inside. This is how our righteousness must exceed theirs by having Christ's righteousness not by our works alone but by faith foremost of all.Christ clearly explains the fundamental principle of His own interpretation of the Law.

Mark 7:17-23 :When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, “because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, “thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.” All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”If it does not reach or affect the “mind”, or the “soul,” it cannot pollute, it cannot make him a “sinner”. What is thrown out of the body non-nutritious, the food taken into the stomach is support for our physical life.Jesus, is not declaring all food to be 'clean', setting aside the Levitical distinction between the clean and unclean This does not happen until he dies on the cross.Matt 15:18-20 states our words show our thoughts. The heart was the seat of our emotions. the heart is the center not only of spiritual activity, but of all the operations of human life.“Heart” and “soul” are often used interchangeably (Deut. 6:5; 26:16; comp. Matt. 22:37; Mark 12:30, 33) but not always. The heart is synonymous with the Spirit of man.It is out of the heart that defilement comes (Jer.17:9-10) The heart is wicked, full of iniquity. The heart is also the seat of the conscience (Rom. 2:15). It is naturally wicked (Gen. 8:21), and hence it contaminates the whole life and character. This is why there is need for a change of nature that will change human behavior. Our words are the expression of thoughts and feelings; they defile the person making us really polluted or offensive in the sight of God. This is what really makes the soul corrupt and repulsive in his sight. This is why Jesus said in Mark 7:23 “All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”Luke 11:39-42But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness. “Foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also? “But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you.“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others. The Pharisees laws were burdens that God never intended, it brought them into bondage because it went beyond scripture. This is why Jesus quoted Mt.11:28 to relieve the people of laws that were not instated by God. They annulled the mosaic law by their interpretations which was strictly an outward conformity instead of from the inside.Jesus not once spoke good about traditions, neither did Paul as he said in Col.2:8: “Beware of philosophy and tradition of men, according to the tradition of men not according to Christ he says to let the word of God dwell in you richly.” In their case it was the law which was the word of God in the Old Testament covenant. The Pharisees kept the letter of the law outwardly. They thought if they did not steal or kill they were not guilty of breaking the law of Moses.Jesus went further showing them that the true righteousness of the law is how one acts on the inside. What it really demanded was not just an outward obedience but it had an inward intent, from the heart.Someone would violate the righteousness of the law of Moses long before they commit the physical act. If one hated his brother they would be guilty of murder in the heart long before they committed the act. However, the Pharisees considered themselves not guilty because they never did the physical act of murder. They made the law of no effect because it did not affect the inner man. They were concerned with outward actions only. The true conformity to the Law of Moses was internal not just external. It was the spirit or the principle of the law that needed to be adhered to and accepted for one to obey correctly on the outside.Deut. 6:4 was memorized as the faith of Judaism yet right afterward it says “ to love the lord your God with all your heart, mind soul, and strength. They excluded the heart and soul they very intent of the law.Their heart was hardened and it showed externally in their lives as Jesus rebuked them for tithing their mint and cumin but neglected the weightier matters of the law, JUSTICE and MERCY.They were unjust and denied others who the law was to be fulfilled to mercy, (Mic.6:8)they did not exercise mercy to those who truly needed it..When we look at the NT we find people came to Jesus crying out for mercy and he was always willing to quickly give it to them. But those who came to him confident in their self righteousness he challenged or rebuked.Paul who was a Pharisee writes in Rom 10:2-3: “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.In other words by outward works not by faith. Certainly there were different degrees of hypocrisy among the Pharisees.Again the point of the law was to convict the inner man but they would not allow it and were actors making themselves look righteous to men by Jesus saw their lack from the inside.Luke 18:9: Also He spoke this parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others. but the self righteous in their own works will not be accepted by God.Only those who come humbly depending on his mercy seeing themselves as sinners will be accepted.Luke 5:32: “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” The Pharisees saw themselves as righteous not as sinners. Why? Because they considered themselves as keeping what God required. But they obeyed it only on the outside, and on their terms. So they believed their own laws superceded Moses’ law.Today the church makes its own numerous rules and regulations that are neither in the law or in principle found in scripture. They exert conditions that do not help but actually can restrict and stumble those they actually want to be helped.Have we learned anything from the past, I wonder how much we have become like the Pharisees today?

the death of Jesus

Jesus before his judges…
7, The prayer in the garden. Jesus overcome by fear and terror turns to his Father in prayer which ends in his total acceptance of what his Father wants. His disciples give him no support; they have never seen him like this and they do not know what to do. (14:32-42)

8, Jesus is arrested. Judas identifies him by a kiss. The utter distortion of love. Peter lashes out with a sword - he does not yet understand the way of non-violence. Jesus goes with his captors but challenges the justice of their action (active non-violence). His closest followers run for their lives. Given my record, can I condemn them? (14:43-52)

9, Jesus before the Sanhedrin. The false accusations in which Jesus' words are twisted against him. Jesus' silence before people who seek not justice but the perversion of justice. Jesus' claims to be the Messiah and Saviour King of his people is all they need - in their blindness - to do away with him. Who do I see in Jesus? (14:53-65)

10, Not once, but three times, Peter swears to God to have no knowledge of Jesus. No sooner has he done this, than he breaks down for betraying someone he dearly loves. Peter three times. I, how many times? (14:66-72)

… and the Roman governor

11, Jesus before Pilate. Only the Roman governor can pass sentence of death. Does Jesus claim to be King of the Jews, setting himself up against Roman rule, as the members of the Sanhedrin claim? Jesus maintains complete silence. As Lord and King, he is beyond being judged by a provincial governor but Pilate, who sees Jesus as someone totally under his power to condemn or acquit, cannot understand. (15:1-5)

12, The crowd, instigated by their leaders, call for the release of the gangster Barabbas in place of Jesus. It calls, on the other hand, for the execution of Jesus. Pilate, the opportunist with an eye on his future career, compromises whatever sense of justice he has and hands Jesus over. I, too, have so often acted like Pilate for short-term benefits. (15:6-15)

The Way of the Cross

13, Jesus has claimed to be a King. The soldiers mockingly dress him in purple (the colour of the rich and powerful) and give him a crown of thorns while physically abusing him. Jesus says not a word. The King of kings empties himself. (15:16-20)

14, Now follows the painful Way to the Cross. He is offered a drug to ease his pain (a touch of kindness amid all the barbarity) before being nailed to the cross (unimaginable pain as the nails pierced the wrists). His claim to be King of the Jews is posted. For most, a joke to be laughed at, eliciting mockery and jeering. "If you are the Saviour King, save us and yourself. Ha, ha, ha!"What do I see as I make myself part of this scenario? Do I see my God and his Love shining through these horrors? How do I respond? (15:21-32)

Tragedy and triumph

15, There is darkness everywhere. Jesus himself has reached the lowest depths of mental and physical suffering. "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" Then with a loud cry Jesus dies. Mark actually says that Jesus exepneusen, that is literally, he 'breathed out'. Many see here not just Jesus 'breathing his last' but also, in a much deeper sense, breathing out the Spirit, the Spirit of his Father and of himself. His death is the moment of final achievement when he passes on his Way, his Vision to all those who put their trust in him. At the same time, the curtain shielding the Holy of Holies in the Temple is ripped apart. God has begun a new presence in the Risen Jesus and in his Body, the Church. A pagan soldier at the foot of the cross sees the Truth: "Truly this person is son of God." It is a time for me too to open myself to be filled with that Spirit. And alone among Jesus' disciples, only the women are there with Jesus. (15:33-41)

16, Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the very Sanhedrin which had condemned Jesus, but a man who looked to the coming of God's Kingdom gets permission to bury Jesus in a rock tomb which is securely sealed by a large stone. To the ordinary witness - and perhaps to many disciples - it seems to be the end of everything. (15:42-47)

why was He done away ?

Jesus was born into the jewish religion, a religion of a host of rituals, a host of rules on diet, cleanliness, etc. He revolted. I believe He was anti-religion.

But when He died the christians invented a religion even more ritualistic.

Glory for a day, dis sunday is Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday occurs on the Sunday before Easter Sunday in the Western Christian liturgical calendar. It signals the upcoming end of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week.

The day commemorates the spreading of palms and clothing in Jesus' path as He entered Jerusalem prior to His crucifixion:

They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:7-9)

5 days later , He will be flogged and crucified

I shall not be moved

Well lordy I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's growin' in the meadow (down by the water)
I shall not be moved

I'm on my way to glory land and I shall not be moved
On my way to glory land I will not be moved

I'm like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

I shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Well I'm on my way to glory land and I shall not be moved
On my way to glory land I shall not be moved

I'm like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Oh wellI shall not be, I shall not be moved
I shall not be, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

On this rock of ages, I shall not be moved
On this rock of ages, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

Glory, glory, glory hallelujah, I shall not be moved
Glory hallelujah, I shall not be moved

Just like a tree that's planted by the water
I shall not be moved

count your blessings

A Place For Worries .... Surrender Box

There are times when our minds become too full. Our to-do lists, worries, plans, and dreams may be so crowded together in our heads that we don't have room to think. We may believe that we are somehow taking care of our desires and concerns by keeping them at the forefront of our minds.

In maintaining our mental hold on every detail, however, we may actually delay the realization of our dreams and the resolution of our worries because we won't let them go. At times such as these, we may want to use a surrender box.

A surrender box allows us to let go of our worries and desires so the universe can take care of them for us. We write down what we want or need to happen and then place the note into a box. By writing and placing our thoughts in the box, we are taking action and letting the universe know we need help and are willing to surrender our feelings.

We give ourselves permission to not concern ourselves with that problem any longer and trust that the universe is taking care of it. You may even want to decorate your box and place it in a special place. Your surrender box is a sacred container for your worries.

Not only do you free up space in your mind by letting go of our worries and desires and dropping them into your surrender box, but you are giving your burden over to a higher power. Once we drop our worries and desires into the surrender box, we free our minds so we can be fully present in each moment. Surrendering our worries and concerns and placing them in the hands of the universe doesn't mean that we've given up or have been defeated.

Instead, we are releasing the realization of our desires and the resolution of our worries and no longer concerning ourselves with their outcomes. It's always fun to go back and pull the slips of paper out of the box once your requests have been granted.

And it's amazing how quickly problems go away and dreams come true when we finally let go and allow a higher power to help us.
