What is Palm Sunday?

What do Christians Celebrate on Palm Sunday?
On Palm Sunday Christians celebrate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, one week before his execution by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as "Passion Sunday," marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.
The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him with waving palm branches, and by covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross.
The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19.

the day Jesus (and Shah Rukh Khan) lost His cool

"It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves (Mt. 21:13)."
http://www.plim.org/1Moneychangers%20in%20the%20Temple.htm

The highlight of the year for Christians is Easter, the day when our Lord rose from the dead. Lent is a forty-day season of preparation for Easter. Lent always begins on a Wednesday, called Ash Wednesday.

Why 40 days? Because, Jesus fasted and was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days. Lent, then, is our time of fasting, prayer, temptation and repentance. Lent is not required anywhere in scriptures, but it has been a custom, which Christians have practiced for most of the last two thousand years.

In many languages, the word "Lent" actually means "fast." This is where the custom of giving up something for Lent originated. ....

Satyendra Dubey- Death Of A Whistleblower
By Sucheta Dalal
Suchetadalal.com

10 December, 2003

At midnight on Friday, there were 15,000 signatures to the petition-on-line demanding full inquiry and justice in the murder of IIT engineer Satyendra Dubey. By 11 am the next morning, another 1,100 people had added their names to the protest.

The petition —http://www.petitiononline.com/mod—perl/signed.cgi/sdubey) has been posted on dozens of web sites and forwarded by scores of Yahoo groups and blogs and the number of signatories has been growing at an amazing pace.

But the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), which is guilty of leaking Dubey’s name — first exposed by The Sunday Express — to the very crooked contractors that he had complained against seems unaware about the groundswell of public anger.

devadasis

Devadasi is a religious practice in parts of southern India, including Andhra Pradesh, whereby parents marry a daughter to a deity or a temple.

The marriage usually occurs before the girl reaches puberty and requires the girl to become a sex and dance teacher to community members. Such girls are known as jogini. They are forbidden to enter into a real marriage.

Joginis are recognised by their copper bangles, the band they wear round their necks with a leather pendant and a long necklace with several pendants which have the image of Goddess Yellamma

Corrupt persons should be hanged in public: SC judge
R Balaji in New Delhi

March 07, 2007 20:15 IST
Observing that everyone wants to loot this country, the Supreme Court today said the only panacea to rid the country of corrupt elements was to hang a few of them on the lamp post.
"The only way to rid the country of corruption is to hang a few of you on the lamp post. The law does not permit us to do it but otherwise we would prefer to hang people like you at the lamp post," a Bench of Justices S B Sinha and Markandeya Katju remarked during arguments put forth by counsel for an accused.
As counsel R Singh, tried to make some submission Justice Katju further said, "Everywhere, we have corruption. Nothing is free from corruption. Everybody wants to loot this country. The only solution for this menace is to hang some people in the public so that it acts as a deterrent on others."
The Bench's scathing observations came during the hearing of a bail application moved by one Braj Bhushan Prasad, a dismissed employee of Bihar government for his alleged involvement in the Rs 1000 crore fodder scam in which the name of the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had also figured prominently.
The counsel's submission that Bhushan was a mere budget accounts officer further infuriated the Bench, which observed "Look at that! you are supposed to audit the funds, but see what you have done."
Bhushan was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by a Special Court in Jharkhand in connection with the fodder scam.
The Bench also rejected the counsel's plea for a direction to the Jharkhand High Court to dispose off the criminal appeal filed by Bhushan against his conviction.
"The Supreme Court does not have any powers to give such directions. Only in exceptional circumstances, we may pass some direction, "the Bench observed, while declining to pass any orders to the High Court.

Reality Bites Shilpa Shetty
17 Jan 07
Here is my obligatory post on Shilpa Shetty’s appearance on Big Brother. I haven’t watched the show, in any of its multiple incarnations, and I confess I haven’t seen an entire Shetty movie yet. But of all the eye candy that pervades Bollywood (there are some actors left I think), she’s my favorite. In one of her early promos for the show, she graciously compares herself to Angelina Jolie, modestly admitting that she doesn’t “know what to think of that”. Some news of her progress on the show here, amidst accusations of racism. More ruckus here as Chancellor Gordon Brown has to answer questions during his visit to India. You can enjoy more of the show on YouTube if you want to make up your own mind.

All About SariIndia has been known to have wonderful dresses and costumes. The most common and accepted attire is the sari. For a single length of material, the Indian sari must be the most versatile garment in existence. A sari is a rectangular piece of cloth that is five to six yards in length and sometimes nine yards. Yet, this dress is worn by millions of Indian women and is, by far, the most elegant. It is not merely an outfit but an ornament, lending both grace and glamour to the wearer. Sari is for all purpose - party wear, daily wear, bridal wear and so on.The age old Sari has kept its popularity throughout the centuries because of its total simplicity and practical comfort combined with the sense of luxury and sense of sexuality a woman experiences.Sari is an Indian women’s statement to the world. What is a typical Indian sari like??? The sari can be a shimmering silk, or fine cotton or an elegant chiffon material. It can have the most intricate embroidery with silk threads or even silver and gold threads. The colors can be vibrantly bright or subdued pastels. There are saris to match every mood and every occasion to suit every budget. The sari has an ageless charm since it is not cut or tailored for a particular size. This garment can fit any size and if worn properly can accentuate or conceal. This supremely graceful attire can also be worn in several ways and its manner of wearing as well as its color and texture are indicative of the status, age, occupation, region and religion of a woman. The Indian sari has retained its beauty over centuries. This attire has retained its innocence through its original form but it has evolved in tremendous variety. A more feminine dress has never been seen anywhere. This attire can cover the body from head to toe, making a woman look modest and coy. But just shift the pallu, wear it with a stylish blouse and it could give any Western dress a complex.Sari is one piece of clothing which fits all….. fat or thin short or tall!!! The traditional 6 yard sari allows for generous pleating, and draping around the body and over the shoulders almost Grecian in style. The loose end of the fabric, which is thrown over the left shoulder, is known as ‘Pallu’. Pallu usually has extensive design or embroidery woven into it. Sari is very flattering to all shapes and sizes and forgiving of the various flaws. It can ingeniously conceal the extra flab of fat, or it can accentuate the well-proportioned curve -- It is just a matter of how you drape the sari. This garment is in style for over 5000 years for the simple reason of its simplicity and practical usage. This demure garment is a very versatile garment too. The pallu has a very multi-purpose use to it. In case of slight chill in the air, put it around the shoulder like a shawl, if it gets very cold wrap it around the head like a scarf. The sari is so practical to wear that you can even run a marathon in it with out any problem.
The most popular saris are:
1. Silk saris
2. Bangalore silk saris
3. Embroidered saris
4. Chiffon saris
5. Crepe saris
6. Printed saris
